Lead walking
Lead walking, the emphasis is on teaching the dog what the word heel or close means, for example many people use the word when the dog is pulling! If we remember that dogs learn many things good and bad by word association it becomes clear why so many owners have problems teaching their dogs to walk on a loose lead.
We work on teaching the owner good body posture and to use a fast pace when walking their dogs, rewarding the dog when it is in the required position is also encouraged.
Teaching an effective stop command will also help to teach the dog to stop when we do thus enabling the owner to have much more control when the dog is on the lead. We also concentrate on teaching the dog that the word heel or close means to be by the owners side whether the owner is standing still or walking this command can then be very effective for recalling the dog particularly if the dog has learnt to not respond to the owners previous recall attempts or commands.
